On first day we will start from Athens (city or airport or port) and we will cover the northeast region of Peloponnese namely the Argolida prefecture, one of the most historical regions of all Europe. First things first, a short stop to admire the Corinth Canal, an amazing human accomplishment of the late 19th century and a famous hot spot for viral selfies! Next you will visit the Archaeological site of Epidavros, the first medical campus of the world, with the famous ancient theatre known for the benchmark acoustics. Some more history at the Mycenae site, home of the Greek civilization origins and then to Nafplio for a mid-day break exploring the picturesque old part of the first capital city of modern Greece. First day concludes after a scenic drive through Peloponnese side to side at Ancient Olympia town for the first overnight.
Day 2
Day 2 will find us at the hometown of Ancient and Modern Olympic games. Ancient Olympia was the host town of the Olympic games in the ancient times and still is today as the famous Olympic flame, the symbol of Olympics movement, lights up and starts its journey here. Fresh in the morning you will explore the archaeological site with the sanctuary of Zeus and the athletic premises. Admire the amazing findings in the museum such as the Hermes of Praxiteles. Indulge yourself to a local food experience and record the authentic flavors of tomatoes, oregano and olives. Hitting the road to arrive at Delphi for the second overnight passing over the biggest hanging bridge of Greece at Rio-Antirio entering central Greece region.
Day 3
Find out why Delphi was the most visited location in the ancient times on day 3. What kind of questions asked by people, officials and emperors to the Oracle of Delphi. In addition you will admire the treasures found at the location and exhibited at the Delphi museum. You will also have the chance to dine at one of the best country restaurants of Greece. Enjoy authentic Greek food with local ingredients and recipes. Your table under the trees and the endless view will make your day. After leaving Delphi and on the way to Meteora we will have the option for a short stop at the memorial of King Leonidas located at Thermopylae. That is the battleground where Greeks resisted Persians invasion back in 480 B.C. Day 3 concludes at the area of Meteora, Kalambaka town, for the third and final overnight of the tour.
Day 4
Arranging an overnight at Kalabaka, or next at Kastraki, will give you the opportunity to visit Meteora monasteries on day 4 starting early in the day. One of the most spectacular and remote locations from Athens. You will have enough time and energy to visit 2 or 3 monasteries. The feeling of awe before these amazing structures on the rocks is unprecedented. A sense of calm and inner peacefulness will follow you for long after this visit. Amuse yourself with a tasteful lunch enjoying unique local flavors before heading back to Athens base to conclude this once in a lifetime 4 days long private tour of Greece in a Nutshell!
